Applied research
Our research section IKAB e.V. is responsible for this area. Applied communication research implies for us:

Within a consciously interdisciplinary perspective our main focus is qualitative research in an intercultural context. We specialise in action-oriented evaluation studies in the area of youth and educational policies.
Here are some examples of our studies:
- An evaluation of the structures and the educational content of non-formal youth work in Luxembourg (youth centres, training of staff and volunteers etc.) - commissioned by the Luxembourg Youth Ministry (since 1998)
- "Youth for Europe" in Luxemboug, evaluation of the implementation and execution of the programme in 1998 - commissioned by the Luxembourg Youth Ministry / Service national de la Jeunesse (1998)
- Interim Evaluation of the Community Programme "Youth for Europe III" in all participating countries - commissioned by the European Commission (1997)
- A study on quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods - commissioned by the Centre d'Etudes sur la Situation des Jeunes en Europe, Luxembourg (1997)
- "Youth for Europe" in Germany, evaluation of the implementation of the first Phase and first year of the second phase - commissioned by the German National Agency "Youth for Europe" (1991/92)
- An evaluation of international prizewinner gatherings of the European Competition from 1980 - 1986 - funded by the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the European Culture Foundation (1990) (see archive)
- Third Joint Programme - Exchange of Young Workers: Study on the Long-Term Effects of this Community exchange programme (1989)
Devising and implementing specific training measures for other educational institutions:
- Expert forum "Discover cultural diversity - Gain self-assurance! The parameters, opportunities and problems encountered when including young people from challenging social backgrounds in international youth measures" - commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth in the framework of the programme "Development and opportunities of young people from challenging social backgrounds (E & C)" (1999)
- Two multi-phase training courses for employees of national "Youth for Europe" agencies in Central and Eastern European countries (1997/98)
- A community project for developing training modules for youth workers (Intercultural learning; Creativity, action against exclusion; The Mobility of young Europeans) (1992-1994) (see archive)
- Twelve training courses to qualify educational workers in the new German länder for international youth work (1990/91)
IKAB e.V. co-operates with colleagues from a range of universities, research centres and consultancy services across Europe. Interdisciplinary co-operation is our practice.
We are a member of Inter´Act, a European association for employment, training, and culture, which facilitates our own active participation in European level debate.
